The head of the Red Bull team, Christian Horner, has committed to participate in 24 races a year.

Toto Wolff could consider competing in fewer races in the future, but rival team manager Christian Horner said he would not do so.

The growing popularity of Formula 1 and the financial opportunities that come with it have led to an increase in the annual racing calendar in recent years. A record 24 races will be held throughout the 2024 season.

Moving equipment around the world for each of these events is a huge logistical task. This also creates significant staffing issues and given the amount of travel and workload roadside workers have to do, burnout becomes a real problem.

Where possible there will be greater staff turnover, but where this is not possible some roles will remain in place. Most importantly, drivers must participate in all rounds to achieve their goals for a given campaign.

The important place where there is room for maneuver is the team leader. Although they are in charge, boss Mercedes Wolff emphasized that their personal involvement is not always mandatory.

The Austrian athlete has led the team by far, missing two games this year after knee surgery. He also missed events such as the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix for no apparent reason. With Mercedes winning the title, Wolff decided not to travel and is instead “concentrating on other public matters”.

He also expressed a desire to reduce personal travel in the future. “The clear aim is to build a structure for the future and that is my responsibility to the team,” he said last month.
